What a way to run a rodeo

Mulholland Drive

I low key haven't stopped thinking about this since I first watched it.

Had the chance to see it on the big screen last week, which was nice. It's not like a big flashy production or anything, but the dark theatre setting helped lock you in the dream, at least when people around you aren't being annoying. More on that later.

It's kind of no surprise that this is the one that kind of became the most lauded. It's cryptic and quote-unquote "Lynchian". But most people get the gist of things by the end. Roger Ebert famously didn't like David Lynch movies until this one rolled around.

The movie has probably like three or four of my favourite scenes of all time, that I could (and do) just watch on their own over and over again. They work without context, they don't even really spoil anything. The conversation with the cowboy. The botched assassination. The most amazing one, the man behind Winkie's. A scene that explains to you exactly what is about to happen and then still scares you when it happens.

And of course, Club Silencio, though that's one I don't think hits the same without being absorbed in the movie. But the singing by Rebekah del Rio really lands in the theater, man.

Four Stars.
