What a way to run a rodeo

About Me

Who am I?

I'm Nathan, or Nate if you maybe play a sport with me or something.

What's this about?

Blogging, baby. Static web sites. I'm bringing it back, single-handedly. (It never left.)

I give it three weeks before I lose interest. (Written on: 2026-02-27, for posterity)

What's the story?

This kind of got kicked off when I just got a bit too fed up with the enshittification of the internet around me. I started planning A Way Out. I started soft-evangelizing about it to my friends. They are all educated people but not always very tech-literate and mostly can't even fathom starting. Along the way I found myself needing a domain name and some hosting space and it occurred to me that I might want to write some stuff down about what I'm doing along the way. So here we are.

I'm trying to capture my de-enshittifying here: Unweb Yourself. But while I'm here, I'm getting a bit nostalgic for my university days, so I'm going to try to do some old-fashioned blogging. I hope nobody reads it; it takes the pressure off. (Please read my blog.)

What's your setup?

As you can see on the footer, this site is built using Zola. I'm still learning this as I go, so there may be some hiccups as I go. But it's pretty neat!

I'm hosting this on sourcehut via their "Sites" feature, which feels a bit like an abuse of the intended purpose of the service. I do have a few potential proper software projects I keep meaning to dabble with though, I swear! And I very much like the vibes and philosophy behind this project, so if I ever do get them off the ground then that's where they'll live.

I had some inspiration.
