First game of the new season. Started off well, had an open hit for four and made it in the first end. Then did the usual thing of try to play too conservatively with the lead, missed shots in the attempt, and so let them back into the game.

The other skip made some good shots, but mostly I was missing some key ones. I tried an inside double to lie three, in the third end, up 4-2. A bit of a greedy shot, but also it was quite makeable and would leave us set up for another really big score, so I don't regret the attempt. But I missed it completely (a bit outside and it didn't curl, went right between the two rocks) and had a tougher shot to save one point later on as a result (which I also didn't make, so they took two points and tied the game).

I could have concentrated on hitting the one rock and not go for the double. But then I would likely still give up a steal, maybe even still be facing two. I think it was the right call, could have put the game away early.

We built the lead back up again to three, I made a nice hit on a rock that was frozen, squeezed it out just enough to score two. But in the 6th end I couldn't make my guard (touch heavy and so it didn't curl). That left them a shot for three. Not an easy one, but it was there, and they made it. But so we had hammer coming home in the last end, and we closed it out.

Notes

• Speed of ice was pretty normal
• A bit of the usual straight runs on the outside, especially on the right side going away from the glass
• Blue 8 rock seemed a bit faster than 7
