What a way to run a rodeo

Evening Men, Round 1, Game 2

Another good night. A total blowout. I was originally going to record scores in these things, but really the score in curling is often not very representative of the game, at least at my level. A lot of distortion in the last couple of ends because it doesn't matter if you lose a game by 1 or by 5. That said: this was a blowout.

I think the other skip made some poor calls for his own shots. He was trying to do damage limitation, but went the wrong way about it. A key moment was our first steal of three points, where we had a rock in the four-foot ring and two in the twelve-foot ring (front and back). He tried to double out two rocks to reduce us to a score of one point. But the draw on the other side was wide open, maybe not to outcount us to score one for himself (though that was a possibility), but at least he could relatively easily (as easy as things go) get to the eight-foot ring. Which would have accomplished the same thing as doubling us out.

Anyway, we played great on our own so it just snowballed from there. Tonight was a night that illustrated how good sweeping can make a difference, because my front end definitely made me look good on a few clutch shots.

Continues to be a great start to the season for me, complete opposite to last year. Jinx, jinx; jinx.

Notes

  • Speed of ice was a bit slow, 9:00 pm game so kind of the usual
  • Weird run on left side, toward the mirrors. Actually saw the rock rattle a bit once.
  • Right side toward the glass was pretty late breaking curl but good curl once it caught on
  • Noticed nothing about the rocks
